Sharon Evans is the President/ CEO for Business Resource Group (BRG), an economic development non-profit that serves 1,800+ small and diverse businesses annually. With over twenty-five years’ experience in accounting, finance and advocacy work, Sharon has led BRG in becoming one of the nation’s leading SBA financial intermediaries.
Sharon and her team have assisted 14,000+ small business owners, access $293 million in capital and helped to create thousands of jobs across California. As a passionate advocate for small business, she works to promote more equitable growth opportunities for minority and women owned firms. Sharon has received numerous awards and accolades from US Small Business Association, US Dept. of Commerce- Minority Business Development Agency, GLAAACC, the City of Los Angeles, Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, the Department of and Office of Comptroller of Currency. BRG’s programs were selected as National Model Programs by the MBDA and the Milken Institute.
Evans works with the banking, government, non-profits, academia, corporate and policy think-tanks to drive greater access to opportunities for business. She has worked with the worked with the nation’s leading credit agencies, banks, Fannie Mae, Dun & Bradstreet, Fair Isaac, Experian, and the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco to increase community investment and launch new models to improve credit access.
She was a founding board member of the Los Angeles African American Women’s’ Public Policy Institute at USC, serves on the Board of the CA Black Chamber of Commerce, Biz-Fed Los Angeles, the Greenlining Institute, Southern California Edison’s Clean Energy Leadership Council and the CA Alliance for Vendor Development . She most recently served on the National Steering Committee for the SBA/Milken Institute’s PLUM Initiative and Chair of the Market Research and Industry Cluster Committee. Sharon completed her undergraduate work at USC, went on to complete post graduate studies in accounting at Cal State LA. She earned a Certification in Minority Business Growth Strategies from Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business and completed the Executive MBE Program at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
